New air link for Bosnia

Qatar Airways has launched new direct flights between Doha and Sarajevo, the flag carrier announced, in another boon for Bosnia as it becomes an increasingly popular destination for Arab tourists.

The inaugural flight carrying Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute after touching down at Sarajevo International Airport on Tuesday.

“As the capital of Bosnia and Hercegovina, we are confident that this will be a popular and much-anticipated gateway into the country for both business and leisure travellers from across our network,” Al Baker said.

With a flight time of just six hours, the newly launched service to the Bosnian capital will operate four times a week — on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

In the past four months, Qatar Airways has added the Macedonian capital Skopje to its network of destinations to Eastern Europe, along with Prague and Kiev.

The airline says it has served key cities in the region such as Belgrade and Zagreb for many years, and “sees the potential for continued growth in this rapidly developing market”.
